“Your ADHD Own It” Campaign
Adam Levine is owning his ADHD. The Maroon 5 frontman, who stars in a new PSA with the “Own It” campaign, opens up to Us Weekly exclusively about his adult attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
“I like to always make sure that whatever I’m promoting or talking about or discussing at length, is something that I have personal, hands on experience with,” Levine tells Us. “And this is no different than anything else. This is an issue that’s very near and dear to my heart,” the hunky crooner continues.
The Voice Mentor, 34, whose branded empire includes fragrance and fashion lines, also has multiple endorsement deals with companies like First Act and Proactiv. Staying true to his “hands-on experience” approach, Levine has also vocalized his struggle with acne as a spokesperson for the skincare company.
In the PSA previewed by Us, a softer, more vulnerable side of Behati Prinsloo’s fiance emerges: “When I was first diagnosed with ADHD, it wasn’t a surprise because I had difficulty in high school focusing,” the L.A. native admits. “And I think now, people notice my ADHD as an adult on a daily basis. When I can’t pay attention, I really can’t pay attention.”
Levine tells Us he wants to use his celebrity status to help other adults who unknowingly struggle with the condition: “If somebody approached me and said that anything that I said, helped them figure it out — or someone came to me and said I need help what do you suggest I do – the first thing I would suggest they do is see somebody,” he says. “See a doctor about it.”
