On Thursday, Adam called On Air with Ryan Seacrest and revealed his secret to penning relatable songs that romantics listen to in perpetuity. At first, Levine cited his own personal experiences, but later decided to take a step back and write about things he observed from other relationships.
“Certain songs are just about other narratives in people’s relationships,” he said. “‘She Will Be Loved’ is a lot more about someone else in their own situation. So you kind of have to start reflecting on things and kind of play a character to keep yourself sane.”
Although Levine seems to play the role of a love-scorned character on a lot of M5 hits, the reality of his personal life is quite the opposite. The singer married Victoria’s Secret Angel Behati Prinsloo in 2014, and the two recently welcomed their first child together, Dusty Rose.
On being a new dad, Levine said, “I’ve been a parent for three weeks; what do I know? I don’t know anything, but it’s kind of part of the beauty of it, honestly. There are a lot of instincts, a lot of things that kind of kick in and switch on. It’s a beautiful experience.”
On top of juggling parenting and his duties as the frontman for M5, Levine is also a judge on NBC’s The Voice with Miley Cyrus, Blake Shelton, and Alicia Keys. The singing competition is currently in its battle rounds, but Levine thinks his team member, Billy Gilman, will take home the grand prize.
“The last two seasons, I did call the winner,” he said. “One season it was Jordan Smith on my team, and then another season it was Alisan Porter. They both won. I actually, from day one, predicted that. So I’m on a role is all I’m saying!”
